Developments in the Southern Tier Labor Market
Private sector jobs in the Southern Tier declined by 600 or 0.3 percent, to 215,400 in April 2024. Gains were centered in leisure and hospitality (+900) and mining, logging and construction (+400). Employment losses were focused in professional and business services (-800), manufacturing (-400) and trade, transportation and utilities (-400). Government jobs increased by (+2,000) over the year.
