Developments in the Western New York Labor Market
Private sector jobs in the Western New York region rose over-the-year by 11,000, or 2.1 percent, to 537,500 in April 2024. Gains were centered in private education and health services (+5,000), leisure and hospitality (+4,300), trade, transportation and utilities (+1,000), mining, logging and construction (+800) and manufacturing (+500). Employment losses were focused in professional and business services (-600). Government sector jobs increased by (+3,500) over-the-year.
